Neal Schon of Journey, Steve Miller, Joan Jett and Joe Satriani are among the guitarists who will take part in a June 9 celebration of the late guitar legend and inventor Les Paul's 100th birthday.
The event in New York's Times Square will feature the assorted guitarist and others performing with the Les Paul Trio, and the show will serve as the official kick off for the Les Paul Foundation's year-long 100th Birthday Of Les Paul commemoration. More acts are expected to be announced for the bill in the near future.
Paul is known for popularizing the solid body electric guitar along with many other musical instruments and recording innovations that remain in use today.
More events for the 100th birthday campaign are planned, including another tribute concert in New York, a new web site, educational grants, a national tour called Les Paul's Big Sound Experience and a Pledge To Invent campaign aimed at youth. Updates will appear at Les-Paul.com.
