Hard to believe, but there has never been a signature drumstick for The Who's late Keith Moon. Until now.
The Vic Firth Co. has issued the Keith Moon Signature Stick with the full approval and cooperation of Moon's estate. Moon's daughter Amanda De Wolf said in a statement that, "We wanted this new Keith Moon model to be made by the very best drumstick company. By choosing Vic Firth, we have accurately replicated the design and provided the enhanced quality that Vic Firth is renowned for."
The company describes the Moon stick as "unique in its design with the combination of a medium shaft, fast-sloping medium taper and a length just short of 16 inches. Crafted in hickory with an oval wood tip, this stick packs plenty of punch when needed and can work in a variety of musical settings."
Moon died September 7, 1978 at the age of 32 in London from a drug and alcohol overdose. Who frontman Roger Daltrey has been producing a film biopic, titled See Me Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked For Your Pleasure and starring Mike Myers as Moon, for several years, but the project is currently on hold.
Daltrey and Pete Townshend hit the road for the next leg of the Who Hits 50! tour on February 27 in Detroit.
