Fans of The Band's famed final concert, The Last Waltz, will be able to feast on a batch of new 40th anniversary packages coming out this fall.
Three will be coming out November 11:
* The 40th Anniversary Edition, a two-CD set featuring the original soundtrack newly remastered from the original master tapes;
* The 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, featuring the entire concert along with rehearsals and outtakes on four CDs along wtih a Blu-ray edition of the Martin Scorsese film from the event;
* And a 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Vinyl set with everything on six LPs.
A limited edition 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition follows on December 9, including a second Blu-ray disc and a 300-page book that includes storyboards, set sketches and Scorsese's shooting script.
The Last Waltz was held on Thanksgiving (November 25) of 1976 at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, with the original lineup of the band ending its run with help from friends such as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Ringo Starr and Muddy Waters.
The documentary came out two years later and has long been regarded as one of the greatest concert films ever.
The Band, then known as The Hawks, is also featured on Dylan's The 1966 Live Recordings, a 36-disc box set also coming November 11, including every known recorded performance Dylan did that year. And on the same day The Band's Robbie Robertson releases a memoir, Testimony, as well as an accompanying career-spanning compilation of the same title.
