A taciturn letter John Lennon and Yoko Ono sent to Paul and Linda McCartney is expected to fetch $20,000 at an upcoming auction.
The undated, hand-written letter on stationary from Lennon and Ono's Bag Productions Inc. is clearly in response to a prior letter for Linda apparently criticizing Lennon for remarks he had made about the Beatles and for returning his MBE medal to Buckingham Palace.
Lennon writes that the letter left him "wondering what middle aged cranky Beatle fan wrote it" and criticizes the McCartneys for their lack of support for he and Ono.
RR Auction's Robert Livingston said in a statement that Lennon's letter "was likely written shortly before Lennon and Ono's departure for America. The draft captures the intense rivalry between the two men in the months, and even years, surrounding the breakup of the Beatles."
The letter can be read in full at RRAuction.com.
