Today (January 4th) is Michael Stipe’s birthday, and while the singer is best known for fronting R.E.M., he’s also been involved in a number of projects, particularly when it comes to film. Here’s a sample of some of our favorite Stipe film credits via his IMDb page.

1998 – Velvet Goldmine

Stipe received an Executive Producer credit for this fictitious glam rock romp that starred Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Christian Bale and Toni Collette.

1999 – Olive The Other Reindeer

Executively Produced by The Simpsons’ Matt Groening, this delightful holiday special features Stipe in yet another producing roll and as the voice of Schnitzel, Blitzen’s cousin who can’t fly.

This satire about a teen getting pregnant in the setting of a Christian high school has everything! Patrick Fugit post Almost Famous…Macaulay Culkin and Mandy Moore when they still mattered…EVERYTHING! And you guessed it! Stipe snagged a Producer credit on this film, too!
