"It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require," says Ben Affleck.
In a statement issued, quoted by E!, Affleck notes "There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give."
As many begin to wonder who will take his place in directing with the stand alone film, he notes that he is willing to collaborate with whoever comes along to make sure the character gets the justice it deserves. Considering how important the idea of justice is to Batman, I'm sure the fictional vigilante would appreciate that.
The internet has mixed emotions when it comes to this, with everyone either supporting, being frustrated, or screaming that if Zack Snyder gets pulled in to direct after "making Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice so terrible," they are done with the DC Comic Book Movie Universe.
I stand by @BenAffleck's decision to step down as director. Making movies like Batman is a lot of work. Better to have him ?as star/producer
This is a good thing. Ben Affleck is putting his ego aside and realizing the quality of this film will take a hit if he has to do EVERYTHING
Am I upset that @BenAffleck isn't directing #TheBatman? Yes. But, I'd rather have him direct w full confidence and proper time. #DCFilms
Ben Affleck is not directing The #Batman* Mysterious voice: @ZackSnyder Snyder: Yes Master! Mysterious voice: RISE! #Snyder4Batman #DCEU
Ben Affleck: I... Fans: OMG THE DCEU IS RUINED JUST REBOOT IT. IT IS A MESS ZACK SNYDER RUINS EVERYTHING THATS WHY MCU IS WINNING
I repeat. https://t.co/Q9JSyGqxDL
