Nexus School for Autism Fundraiser

On Saturday, November 21, Sam’s Club of Willow Grove will present The Nexus School with a $1,000 donation to enable the school to offer Feldenkrais Therapy to its students, which can help address their neurological and developmental issues thereby enabling the students to become more productive members of our community. The presentation ceremony will take place during the school’s Wine & Cheese Silent Auction from 6pm to 9pm. 

The community is invited to attend this event to support students with autism at The Nexus School. Tickets are $20 and include wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, appetizers, and desserts. Auction items include Disney park hopper passes, Phillies tickets, spa certificates, restaurant gift certificates, and more. All profits from this event go directly to fund Nexus Scholarships. The school is located within St. John‘s Episcopal Church, 1333 Old Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA.

The Outback Steakhouse, 1162 Baltimore Pike, Springfield, PA (Delaware County) will open for lunch on Saturday, November 21, 2009, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a fundraising luncheon to benefit the Delaware County Literacy Council (DCLC). Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by check sent to DCLC at 2217 Providence Avenue, Chester, PA, 19013 or online at www.delcoliteracy.org. Proceeds benefit DCLC adult literacy programs. DCLC provides free, individual and small group literacy instruction to Delaware County adults who have low literacy skills. Free tutor training is offered regularly throughout the year, and we have a great need for tutors. The next tutor training sessions will be in January 2010.

Bucks County Zoo to Host “Night at the Museum"

Bucks County Zoo, the first exotic animal zoo in Bucks County and the first accredited educational facility, will host a fundraising event on Saturday, November 28 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at the Johnsville Centrifuge and Science Museum at 780 Falcon Circle, Warminster.

The event, called “Night at the Museum,” will feature guest speaker Clyde Peeling, a world-renowned reptile expert and adventure traveler, along with a selection of resident exotic animals. Beer and wine is being donated by local wineries and breweries, and local restaurants Bertucci’s, The Temperance House and others will provide food. DJ entertainment, and live and silent auctions are additional highlights of the evening.

ARF rescues dogs and cats from public shelters that are about to be
euthanized, simply due to lack of space. We then foster them, get them all
necessary vet care, and find them a forever home. All proceeds from the

We have desserts donated from many local bakeries as well as a great selection of homemade treats. In addition, we will be selling tickets for the opportunity to win some great raffle prizes. The Friends of Bala Cynwyd Heritage Trial Cleanup

Become a cleanup volunteer with The Friends of Cynwyd Heritage Trail. The trail is the best unknown recreational path in the area. The trial runs 2.5 miles from Cynwyd Station to the Manayunk bridge, or onward to the intersection of Belmont Rock Hill Road. Cleanup days are once a month on both a Saturday and Sunday from 8:45 am- 12:30 pm. Volunteers will be provided with tool and materials, as well as refreshments and giveaways. Proposed cleanup dates are as followed:

September 12 and 13
October 17 and 18
November 14 and 15
December 5 and 6

Please be sure to mark your calendars now to join in the celebration of our 14th annual Happiness of Giving, a holiday food drive on Saturday, December 12th, 2009. Please bring your donation before.

Last year's effort resulted in the distribution of 312 filled food boxes,
each complete with a turkey or ham, stuffing, vegetables, mixed fruit, pasta, yams, cranberry sauce, beans, rice, etc., etc. These boxes were divided among local needy families, community-based organizations such as:

The Missionary Sisters of Charity and The Salvation Army, both in Norristown, and Community Housing Services, Inc., which aids battered families in the five county region. These organizations are once again scheduled to benefit from this year's efforts.

Food and cash boxes will be available at the Valley Forge Harley Davidson dealership Located at Route 363 and Route 422 adjacent of the Valley Forge Park in November to receive your generous donations. We need every can/box of food or pocket change you can spare.

 2010 Liberty Ball, A Knight for the Kids at the PA Academy of Fine Arts

Philadelphians can eat, drink and dance the night away while they support the fight against pediatric cancer. The Philadelphia Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association is hosting the Liberty Ball, A Knight for the Kids at the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts on Saturday, February 6, 2010 @6:30PM.

This semi-formal charity ball will include cocktails, dinner, music and dancing where all proceeds will go toward the 2010 Penn State Dance Marathon, which benefits the Four Diamonds Fund, pediatric cancer research, and treatment at the Hershey Medical Center.  The master of ceremony for the evening will be Erica Grow, a meteorologist for 6ABC and a Penn State graduate.

This event is open to the public.  Tickets are $95 a person through December 15, 2009 (prices will increase after that date) and can be purchased at www.libertyball.org or by sending a check to PSAA-Philadelphia Chapter, PO Box 21233, Philadelphia, PA 19114.
