Tips for keeping dogs off furniture
Views :: 72

Many pet owners find themselves in a difficult predicament when they want to keep their pets off of the furniture. Many times, we end up wanting our dogs on our laps when they are a puppy and we get into a habit of letting them sit with us on the couch or in a chair because they are so cuddly and cute.

But eventually, we realize that they shed hair all over the sofa and slobber on guests when they take a seat. So how do you train a dog to stay off of the furniture?

If you begin when they are a puppy, it should be a lot easier to get your pet to understand that being on the furniture is off limits. Simply use a firm command and place them back on the ground every time they get up. However, training a dog who already lounges on the couch or curls up in an armchair is a more difficult situation.

This post from PetsTips.net has a suggestion that seems like it would help. The author recommends filling a couple cans with change so they make loud rattling noises. When your dog gets up on he couch, shake the can and tell them "NO." Since many dogs are startled by loud sounds, doing this repeatedly will help deter them from going up on the furniture.

 I'm not sure if this tip works, but it sounds like a great idea! Make sure to read the post to find out how to get them to stay off the furniture when you aren't home
