Saturday Morning Sixties with Michael Tearson on Classic Rock 102.9 MGK - Saturdays from 6-8 am. The show harks back not only to the music, but also to the radio style of the earliest days of Rock and Roll on the FM band (here songs actually segue one into another without announcements every time!). Before this the FM band was mainly classical music and talk. But in the late 60s when FM radios got into cars and onto portables, the subsequent appearance of rock radio on FM was something completely new: radio based on albums and deeper album tracks instead of singles. Michael Tearson was among the first to do this "Progressive Rock" or "Free Form Radio" as it was variously known. Michael was widely hailed as a Midnight Master of the form during his long run of late nights on WMMR 1970-92 and WXPN 1992-95.
