The military-to-civilian recruiting firm RecruitMilitary will present a free hiring event for job seekers who have military backgrounds in Philadelphia on Thursday, November 20. This event, the RecruitMilitary Career Fair, will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. RecruitMilitary urges all job seekers who have military backgrounds to attend--veterans who already have civilian work experience, men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses. The Gobble Wobble 5k Run and 2 Mile Run is held every Thanksgiving to raise money for the Abington YMCA Financial Assistance Program! Financial Assistance assists some of our members who are not able to financially pay for Membership, Programs, Summer Camp, School Age Child Care and our Full Day Child Care Services. This year we have some excellent amenities such as Olympic Style Finish, Long Sleeve tee for the first 800, Run "goody" bag for the first 800, Post-event refreshments, Free Raffle for everyone who participates, professional timing, DJ and On-line Registration and results. CASA is embarking on a very important campaign called the 50K in 30 Days Challenge for Kids. Over the next 30 days CASA is asking for help from the community requesting donations and sponsorships, so that in this rough economic climate, no children are left behind.

Be sure to stop by Chickie's and Pete's Roosevelt Blvd. location at 1000 Roosevelt Blvd. in Northeast Philly to watch the Birds beat the Cowboys and help keep those in your community warm by donating coats.

The Helping Hearts Foundation is hosting its second annual Valentine’s weekend charity
gala to raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Cardiac research department on Friday February 13th, 2009. Guests will be provided with entertainment, dinner, dancing and an open bar which is all included in the $100 cost of a ticket. Formal dress is required however, formal behavior is not. Tickets to the event can be purchased at www.helpingheartsgala.org. Helping Hearts will accept donations of any level either for the silent auction or the charity itself. All donations can be made at www.helpingheartsgala.org. Last year guests enjoyed dancing the night away while raising $15,000 for this deserving cause. Helping Hearts is a non-profit corporation operated by a voluntary board of directors. The organization started in 2007 with the goal of helping children receiving medical treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The dedicated people at Helping Hearts have devoted their time and effort to raising money for innovative, cardiac research. At Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the cardiac department alone provides services to more than 24,000 outpatients each year. High School graduates earn about $500,000 more in their working lives than people without a diploma. Deleware County Community College and the Chester County Intermediate Unit are offering free GED classes to the residence of Deleware and Chester counties. Last year they were able to locate families for almost 300 children, but there are still five times that many in need of care.
