Next time I'm on the air: Thanksgiving 7PM-Midnight and the next night, same time.

Love Train: The Sound of Philadelphia

A brand new concert film premiered in town Thursday, November 13th for an invited audience. The concert featured most of the bands that were put together by the legendary producers and songwriting team of Gamble and Huff.

Anybody who lived through the seventies knows the songs that are in the film. It's a feel good concert that puts the pride of being from Philadelphia front and center.

There is no scheduled release of the film to theatres at this time. However, it can be seen on WHYY-TV twice:

  • Saturday, November 29th at 8 pm
  • Wednesday, December 3rd at 8 PM.

The concert took place at the Borgata in Atlantic City on June 7, 2008

Songs and performing artists include:

Wake up Everybody - Harold Melvin's Blue Notes

Expressway to your heart - Soul Survivors

I'm stone in love with you - Russell Thompkins Jr and the New Sylistics

I love music - the O'Jays

Me & Mrs Jones  - Bunny Sigler

Ain't no Stopping us Now - The Three Degrees

La La Means I love you - The Delfonics

It's great that these artists and songs are captured forever now - in high definition - for posterity.

The legendary visionaries - Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble before the premiere on November 13th at the Ritz East, Philadelphia.

Larry Magid of Electric Factory Concerts produced the concert that became the film. Here he is with his wife Micky and Jerry Blavatt, host of the concert, right before the screening on November 13 at the Ritz East in Center City Philadelphia.

 R.I.P. Mitch Mitchell

The innovative drummer who anchored the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has died at the age of 62 of natural causes in Portland, Oregon.

Mitch appeared at the Tower Theatre less than a month ago (around October 23 - Ray Koob broadcast live from it). He was part of the tour of "Experience Hendrix" celebrating the legacy of Jimi Hendrix with an all-star line-up that included Buddy Guy, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Here is a photo of Mitch (r) with Eric Johnson backstage at the Tower, before the show, taken by rock historian and former DJ Denny Somach with his iPhone.

Coming up the night before Thanksgiving, just like last year - the Hooters play live at the Electric Factory!
