Parrotheads will be able to waste away in Margaritaville again next spring.
Jimmy Buffett's new musical, "Escape to Margaritaville," will make its world premiere next spring at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego; previews are slated to begin May 16 with a formal opening on May 28. The production, which will feature Buffett hits and some new songs composed for the musical, is currently slated to wrap on June 25.
The show tells the story of a tropical island resort and the love affair between its bartender (and singer, of course) and a tourist. Tony Award nominee Christopher Ashley, whose credits include "Xanadu" and "Memphis," is directing from a book by Greg Garcia and Mike O' Malley. There's no word yet on plans for the musical after it closes in San Diego.
