Todd Rundgren has revealed that his upcoming White Knight album, due out May 12, includes a team-up with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Rundgren tapped the pair for the track "Deaf Ears," a moody, gauzy and rhythmic tune laden with keyboards, bass and percussion. Rundgren has also posted a video for the track online.

Rundgren tells us that the electronic tone of the song is a style he feels is necessary to reach younger listeners anymore:

"There is a form of music that's very popular with the kids which is called Electronic Dance Music, and it is a big fixture on the festival circuits...It seems they have less requirements in terms of lyrical content nowadays. A lot of that comes out of the fact that EDM is a form of music that survived for a long time in Europe without getting a lot of attention in the U.S. and suddenly exploded into the festival circuit, and now...because it's worldwide, if you write a bunch of thoughtful lyrics to go along with it a lot of people are not gonna get it at all because the whole idea is it transcends language boundaries as well, so there's a certain simplicity to it."

White Knight also features guest appearances by Joe Walsh, Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, Daryl Hall and others. Rundgren will be on the road this year on Yes' Yestival tour as well as with Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band.
