Naomi Watt’s new Netflix series Gypspy was inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s smash hit. After being asked by the series’ showrunner to record a new version of the song, Stevie Nicks decided to record a version that is actually closer to her original vision for ‘Gypsy’ than what appeared on Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Mirage’.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nicks said, “I’m very excited for the world to hear ‘Gypsy’ more like I wrote it — on piano. I am very proud of this version.”

Lisa Rubin, Gypsy’s showrunner, told Entertainment Weekly that the song’s lyrics fit well with the theme of the series.  “It suggests this idea of grounding yourself in who you used to be and the different versions of yourself. There’s melancholy in it, but something that also feels romantic. It feels bare and haunting. It’s still the same song, but there’s a darker element.”

Gypspy debuts on Netflix on June 30.
