Elton John appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night (November 14), and to the surprise of no one, it was rather brilliant.

Sir Elton sat down for an interview and performed two of his classics (“I’m Still Standing” and “Crocodile Rock”), and for a rare moment in his career was the second guest to appear on the show.  Usually, Elton will headline, but the first guest was Vice President Joe Biden.

Sporting some snazzy frames (shocking!), Elton was booked to promote his boxset Diamonds, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of his partnership with songwriter Bernie Taupin.  Elton talked about various aspects of his life and career, but Colbert’s singing fan-out moment was simply perfection.  The fact that Elton then swapped glasses with Colbert was icing on the cake.
