Clapton Slated For 2018 London Hyde Park Show
Eric Clapton may have retired from touring, but he’s not done with performing.
He’s announced his London date for 2018, headlining a British Summer Time series concert on July 8 in London’s Hyde Park, topping a bill that also includes Santana, Steve Winwood and Gary Clark, Jr., with more artists to be announced.
In a statement, Clapton says that, “I have happy memories of performing in Hyde Park in the past and I’m really looking forward to playing there again — the whole atmosphere is very special.”
It will be Clapton’s third appearance in Hyde Park, following a 1969 date with Blind Faith opening for the Rolling Stones and another in 2008.
Texas guitarist Clark tells us that he always looks forward to playing on the same stage as Clapton, who he says has taught him some valuable lessons:
“We did shows with Eric Clapton at the (Madison Square) Garden last year, and he had me sit in with him and the first thing he says to me was like, ‘Man, you’re like the king of reverb,’ and it obviously wasn’t a compliment, so it just kind of had me thinking about that. That’s all I’ve been thinking about is there’s too much reverb, so thanks, Clapton.”
