The Boss will have to make more room in his trophy case for a new, and very significant, honor.

As part of the unveiling of the Tony Award nominations today (May 1), it was announced that Bruce Springsteen will be the recipient of the 2018 Special Tony Award in honor of the remarkable run of his Springsteen on Broadway show.

Springsteen more than deserves this honor, but let’s be honest:  Springsteen on Broadway is such a tough ticket to snag, we bet people are hoping he’ll appear and perform at the Tony Award ceremony.  (Seriously...it might be the only way for a mass audience to catch this unique performance.)

Of course, this Tony Award means Bruce is an Emmy Award away from the coveted EGOT, when a single entertainer wins an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.   If he were smart (which he is), Bruce should record a Springsteen on Broadway performance and have it air on TV as a special.  It would surely be nominated for “Outstanding Variety Special” and would likely win.
