Legendary actor Alan Alda has gone public with being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Alda appeared on CBS This Morning and revealed he was diagnosed three and a half years ago. He said he finally decided to go public after doing press recently promoting his new podcast, Clear+Vivid with Alan Alda, and noticing how his thumb was visibly twitching while on camera.

“Because I’m sort of well-known, it might be helpful to people to hear the message that there are things you can do – you can learn about things and not follow quackery – but find out what real science is coming up with that helps [when living with Parkinson’s],” said Alda.  “It helps to keep moving. It helps to move rhythmically.”

Alda credits being active with helping him live with Parkinson’s with his favorite activities being boxing, tennis and marching.
