LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - NOVEMBER 26: Singer/guitarist James Hetfield of Metallica performs during a stop of the band's WorldWired Tour at T-Mobile Arena on November 26, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

James Hetfield, like most people in the rock world, caught wind of the incredible story of how Dee Gallant used Metallica‘s music to scare away an approaching cougar. Because Papa Het is a stand-up guy, he called Gallant recently to check up on her.

Gallant recounted the call to Peace Arch News and said that a rep for the band reached out to her for her contact information on the morning of August 2. That afternoon, her phone rang, and it was Hetfield, himself.

“He said he saw on one post you wanted to know we saved your life so I’m calling to let you know we’re glad we saved your life,” recalled Gallant. “I was super excited. It’s so amazing he reached out like that.”

Gallant, for a moment, however, did doubt she was really talking to the Metallica frontman and asked how she knew it was really him, so Hetfield sent the selfie that can be seen below.
