Facebook Allowing Users to Opt-Out of Political Ads
Facebook will be allowing users to opt-out of political ads as part of their new “voting information campaign.”
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg laid out all of the details in a new op-ed in USA Today, which involved creating a “Voting Information Center” that will include details on “how and when to vote…voter registration, voting by mail and information about early voting.” This feature will be located at the top of both a user’s Facebook and/or Instagram feed.
Zuckerberg notes that for users that have “already made up your minds and just want the election to be over,” the social media giant is allowing users “the ability to turn off seeing political ads,” however, he adds, “We’ll still remind you to vote.”
Other details of Facebook’s “Voting Information Center” include investing in measures to protect from foreign interference in influencing the upcoming 2020 elections and maintaining a space for free speech but will hold those accountable for speech “that will cause imminent physical harm or suppress voting.”
