Metallica Recently Started Working on a New Album in Quarantine
Metallica has officially started work on a new album while each member is quarantining due to the coronavirus pandemic per Lars Ulrich.
In an interview with Swedish talk show host Fredrik Skavlan, Ulrich said regarding a new album, “We’re just starting, in the last four weeks maybe, we connected again. We’ve been obviously connecting [even before that], but we [have now] connected creatively, and now we’re sort of in discovery mode, I think is a good way to say it. We are sending ideas to each other via e-mail and via Zoom and [trying to] make music in these unusual situations.”
Ulrich mentioned in April during a video chat with Salesforce CEO’s Marc Benioff “…there’s a very good chance” of Metallica working on new music “if you and I and the rest of the world are sitting here six months from now or a year from now.” However, this is the first public confirmation Metallica is, in fact, working on new music during COVID-19.
Ulrich would add in his chat with Skavlan, “So far, at least the sonic side of it and the practical elements are in surprisingly good shape, actually. So now we’ve just gotta figure out how much we can create without being in the same space.”
