Jon Bon Jovi Makes Good on a Promise Made When ‘Slippery When Wet’ Was First Released
Jon Bon Jovi took a moment yesterday (August 18) to celebrate the 34th anniversary of Bon Jovi’s breakthrough album Slippery When Wet. In doing so, he made good on a funny promise he made all those years ago.
JBJ shared a two-part video to Instagram that was captioned, “I can’t believe it’s been 34 years since the release of #SlipperyWhenWet… I’m a man of my word.”
The first part is from an interview from when Slippery When Wet was first released. Jon says in the clip, “My favorite video? I don’t know. I’d have to say in like 20 years from now if I ever get married and had a kid and he says, ‘What have you done with your life?’ I would say, ‘This.’ And I’d probably play him [the video for] ‘Wanted [Dead or Alive].’ He’d probably look at me like I was one of those old-time rock and rollers, and then I’d slap him. [Laughs]”
Cut to the second part of the video 34 years later…
Jon is standing in perhaps his backyard and says to the camera, “Hey everyone! It’s 34 years since ‘Slippery When Wet,’ the record that changed all of our lives. That one had ‘Livin’ On A Prayer,’ ‘You Give Love A Bad Name,’ ‘Wanted Dead Or Alive…'”
At that moment, one of Jon’s sons (possibly Hampton Water business partner Jesse), walks through the shot and says, “What’s up, old man?” Jon then slaps him as he’s walking out of the shot and says, “Told you I’d slap him!”
It may have taken over three decades, but Jon Bon Jovi truly is a man of his word.
