‘Wonder Woman 3’ has already been given the green light by Warner Bros. just days after the release of the DC superhero’s second franchise film Wonder Woman 1984.

Per Variety, Gal Gadot will return to play Wonder Woman, and Patty Jenkins will also return to write and direct the film, which will be the final Wonder Woman film.

In a statement, Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich said, “As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty — who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy.”

Despite mixed reviews, Wonder Woman 1984 delivered some impressive numbers, both in the theater and via HBO Max where the film was available for streaming on Christmas Day. Deadline reports the film has grossed $16.7 million in the domestic box office, which is a record opening during the coronavirus pandemic. Worldwide box office totals have the film currently at $85 million.

As for how Wonder Woman 1984 did once dropped on HBO Max, Andy Forssell, Executive Vice President and General Manager, WarnerMedia Direct-to-Consumer, said in a statement,”‘Wonder Woman 1984’ broke records and exceeded our expectations across all of our key viewing and subscriber metrics in its first 24 hours on the service, and the interest and momentum we’re seeing indicates this will likely continue well beyond the weekend. During these very difficult times, it was nice to give families the option of enjoying this uplifting film at home, where theater viewing wasn’t an option.”

Due to the pandemic, Warner Bros. recently announced that all of the films they are releasing in 2021 will hit the streaming service HBO Max on the same day they’re scheduled for release in theaters. Warner Bros. said this release plan is only for 2021 while the pandemic is still on-going.
