Will Smith Reveals He’s Releasing a Memoir of His Life This Year
Will Smith unveiled a big announcement in a big way over the weekend via a video posted on his Instagram using a Pixar animation filter over his face while the song from The Incredibles plays in the background.
Captioned, “My FIRST BOOK EVER!! WTH?!?! Pre-order in my bio or willsmith.com. Thank U @markmanson for rockin’ with me!! #WillTheBook.”
According to Billboard, his book Will is set to be published by Penguin Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House and co-authored by Mark Manson, the author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.
“It’s been a labor of love,” Smith said in his video. “I’ve been working on it for the past two years and it is finally ready.”
Smith also shared to his 54 million followers the amount of work it took to make the cover art for the memoir, which he said that there are levels to: “5 layers, each repping a different stage of my life…Beautiful!”
Smith will also narrate the audiobook of Will from Penguin Random House Audio. The book looks to tell a story about Smith’s life and career, delving into him being raised in West Philadelphia to entering superstardom as an actor and rapper. He’s a two-time Academy Award nominee and a four-time Grammy winner for songs “Summertime,” “Men in Black,” “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” and “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”
Smith is known for his roles in ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Bad Boys, Men in Black and I Am Legend.
Over Father’s Day weekend, 52-year-old Will spent quality time with his three kids: eldest son Trey, 28, middle child Jaden, 22, and daughter Willow, 20. In the photo with his children, Will makes a point to address that Jaden never smiles in pictures, so he took matters into his own hands, posting a grinning Jaden in the following photo that’s been Photoshopped.
A few hours later, the father of three posted a photo at dinner with his genuinely smiling children, followed by a hilarious reaction to sparklers at their table.
