This really heated up quickly. A few weeks ago it looked as if Simmons would not be dealt at the deadline, which is something he’s wanted since the end of last season. But when the apple of Daryl Morey’s eye, James Harden, made it clear to everyone that he wanted out of Brooklyn it changed things.
This is the second time in as many years that James Harden has asked out of a franchise. Last season he was the prize of the deadline when he asked out of the Houston Rockets. The Sixers made an offer to the Rockets but in the end they chose to go with a package centered around a lot of slop from the Brooklyn Nets. When Harden was dealt to the Nets he was supposed to team up with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. But then James Harden didn’t sign his extension in the offseason and it changed things.
Harden will now unite with Joel Embiid to create a formidable 1-2 punch that the Sixers have not had in… A WHILE.
James Harden is a Sixer.

Following his trade to the Sixers, Harden has also opted in to his $47.3mil player option for the 2022-23 NBA season, effectively signing him in Philadelphia for the remainder of this season and the entirety of next season, per Shams:
