Sixers Tip-Off 2022-23 Season

The Philadelphia Sixers tip off their 2022-2023 campaign tonight at 7:30 p.m. as they take on the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden in Boston.

The game represents an early test for the Sixers as the Celtics are the defending eastern conference champions. Though Boston enters the season without head coach, Ime Udoka, who is facing a season-long suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. 

The new-look Sixers added a handful of players this off-season including presumed starter P.J. Tucker, small-forward Danuel House Jr., shooting-guard De’Anthony Melton, and former NBA Sixth Man of the Year winner, Montrezl Harrell. The team hopes the latter three can solidify and deepen the bench, which has been an achilles heel for the team in recent years. 

Of course, the Sixers have a ton of familiar faces still with the team such as Tobias Harris, James Harden, Tyrese Maxey, and MVP runner-up, Joel Embiid – Although, all of us in the greater Philadelphia area believe he was the rightful MVP to begin with. 

Maxey is coming off a red-hot preseason where he shot over 50% from three-point range and averaged 17.3 points per game. A similar jump in improvement to last season could see the third year guard playing in his first NBA All-Star Game. 

Harden, a regular to the All-Star Game, enters his first full season with the Sixers and looks to build on the chemistry he created last year during the second half of the season. While Embiid looks to be in the MVP hunt for a third consecutive season.

All together, it should be another fun and entertaining year for this Sixers squad.

Between the Sixers and the Phillies starting the NLCS tonight against the San Diego Padres, I’ll be glued to my TV all night!
