Debbie Gibson Jingle Bell Rocked Rivers Casino on Saturday
Back in 1988, when I first was starting my career in the radio industry at WBLI in Long Island, New York, and going by the name Matt O’Bryan, I had the chance to interview a singer who was also new on the scene, releasing her first career album the year prior in 1987.
That singer was Debbie Gibson, and I was stoked for the chance to do my first interview that would be broadcasted over the airways!
So years later, just a few weeks ago, when I was coming home from a quick trip to New Jersey over the Walt Whitman Bridge, I spotted a giant billboard with her face on it.
Needless to say, it definitely caught my attention.
After a closer look, the billboard was advertising a concert she would be having at Rivers Casino in Philadelphia on Saturday, December 3rd.
So guess where I was this past Saturday?!
You guessed it.
Rivers Casino to see Debbie Gibson perform nearly 35 years after she was the first interviewee of my radio career!
I had so much fun and she still can put on a hell of a show.
The tour is called “Winterlicious: An Evening of Holiday and Hits,” and is in support of her new and first-ever holiday album with the same name, “Winterlicious,” which was released back on October 21st.
The album has both original holiday-themed songs and reimagined covers that Debbie put her own twist on.
What better way to kick off the holiday season than to see a familiar face perform a ton of Christmas songs?!
She took the stage in Christmas onesie, which was a funny touch, and was rockin’ around the stage and Christmas tree alike all show long.
All of us in the crowd were definitely having a happy holiday, and, for sure, were dancin’ merrily in the new old-fashioned way!
What a night.
Check out her album Winterlicious if you get the chance!
