Shout Out to My Buddy, Lou!
For my post today, I want to give a shout-out to my buddy Luigi!
Lou Capitanio has been a part of the event staff for thirty years combined between both the Wells Fargo Center and the legendary Spectrum.
He is a legend as far as event staff goes, and throughout all his time spent at both arenas, I think it is fair to say he has seen some legendary things as well!
For every home game between both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Flyers, Lou guards the visiting team’s locker rooms.
Just imagine all the cool people and events he has been able to see while on the job!
Whether it be seeing iconic opposing players up close and personal like LeBron James and Michael Jordan on the basketball side, or Wayne Gretzky and Alexander Ovechkin on the hockey side, it is safe to say he has seen his fair share of superstars.
And Lou has been in charge of keeping all of them safe!
Not to mention the two Stanley Cup Finals the Flyers appeared in that he worked for in 1997 and 2010, or the 2001 NBA Finals the Sixers played in during his time on the job.
Though, I am sure he wishes all three had different outcomes just like the rest of us!
I have my fingers crossed that Lou gets to witness a championship in the arena before his time on the job comes to an end!
Plus, it would be pretty cool if it were the Sixers who made that happen and I got to make the in-house call while doing my public addressing!
On top of guarding the visiting locker rooms during all sporting events at the arena, Lou also works all the other events such as the various concerts that take place.
He is so well respected that when classic rock phenoms such as Bono, Mick Jagger, and Eddie Vedder come to play at the Wells Fargo Center with their respective bands, they personally request Lou as the security for their prospective dressing rooms!
They all know him on a first-name basis!
I wish he was my personal security at the Sixers games, but I guess there are some bigger people he needs to guard at the 76ers games – both figuratively and literally – such as the players themselves!
I’ve seen my fair share of guards during my time working for the Sixers such as Allen Iverson, Jrue Holiday, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey, but Lou is the best guard in the building night in and night out, without a doubt!
I always look forward to seeing him down at the arena on game night.
So, once again, shout out to my buddy, Lou!
