My Longtime Buddy, Jacky Bam Bam, Wins Big at the Mummers Parade
The Mummers Parade was back in action this year on its normal day, New Year’s Day, for the first time in a few years, and, man, was it good to see it back!
Obviously, as we all know, the Covid pandemic was responsible for canceling a couple of the parades, and then last year the parade was set to return to its normal day, but Mother Nature had other plans and quite literally rained on our parade.
Needless to say, the city of Philadelphia deserved that nearly 60-degree weather for the return of one of our city’s favorite traditions in its true form.
MGK even got a special shout out from Fred Flintstone during the parade this year! Thanks for sharing some of your Fruity Pebbles with us at the station, we appreciate it!
All jokes aside, I know I was stoked for it to be back, and judging by the number of people that took over the streets of Philly on Sunday, it is safe to assume that everyone else was happy for it to be back as well!
But I do not think there was anyone more thrilled for the true return to form of the Mummers Parade than my longtime buddy and legendary DJ over at WMGK’s sister station, WMMR, the one and only, Jacky Bam Bam!
Jacky LOVES the Mummers.
Bam Bam has been strutting in the parade for four decades now and has strutted in all five divisions!
He is also no stranger to winning some prizes for his contributions to the parade, and this year was no different!
Bam Bam won first place in the prestigious Handsome Costume category for his “Ghost Train” themed costume!
Man, did he deserve it, too!
His costume this year was on a whole other level of awesomeness.
From the ghost makeup all the way to the feathered cap, his spin on the classic Mummer costume this year was incredible.
The most eye-catching parts of his costume this year were the towering railroad tracks strapped to his back, nearly doubling Bam Bam in size from all directions.
Anyone that knows Jacky, knows that he is a pretty tall guy himself, so to see these railroad tracks topped with skulls and feathered caps of their own towering over him was something special!
I know Bam Bam has to still be sore a few days later from carrying all that weight!
The costume was inspired by the ghost tracks that appeared on the beach in Cape May which were remnants of tracks once used for munitions testing during World War I. Then they disappeared into the surf and are now hidden ghosts of our past…
Spooky stuff!
Anyway, congratulations to my good buddy, Jacky Bam Bam!
I can’t wait to see what he has planned for next year!
