FLASHBACK: Jeff Beck Wows Us at MGK’s Big Gig (VIDEO)
MGK’s Big Gig in 2018 featured an impressive list of headliners, including Ann Wilson and Paul Rodgers. It was Jeff Beck, however, who stole the show.
Beck passed away yesterday at age 78. His career with the Yardbirds and the Jeff Beck Group along with his work as a solo artist earned him a reputation as one of the best guitarists of all time.
He reminded the DeBellaware Valley why people called him a “guitarist’s guitarist” with an incredible performance at (what is now called) Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, NJ.
He covered the Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” flawlessly and finished his night with “Corpus Christi Carol” and “Going Down” as part of his encore. The full set list included:
- Pull It
- You Know You Know
- Morning Dew
- You Have to Laugh
- Lonnie on the Move
- Mná na hÉireann
- Just for Fun
- Little Wing
- Big Block
- Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers
- Brush with the Blues
- A Day in the Life
- Corpus Christi Carol (encore)
- Going Down (encore)
MGK’s own Cyndy Drue recorded his rendition of “A Day in the Life” as a memorable day for MGK and for Jeff Beck wound down.
