AMC Theaters Changing Pricing
AMC Theaters will be changing their movie prices depending on the seat you’re sitting in. Standard seating, value seating & premium seating are the tiers they have settled on. Value seating obviously are the seats that you have to crane your neck as if you’re trying to look at the ceiling – Front row, disable seating, etc. They’re saying standard seating is the most common seats. What are the most common seats? I’ve sat everywhere from right in the middle to the end of the aisle to the last row back in high school (giggity). The middle seats are what they’re calling “Premium Seating”. Fine, best sight lines.
What the prices will actually be hasn’t been released, but unless they’ve decided on making current ticket prices the premium seating price this is stupid. People don’t want to pay more than the outlandish price for a movie and snacks than they already have to pay. There are better options for watching a movie and saving $75-$100. Like watching at home and not paying 8 bucks for a box of Buncha Crunch.
TVs are so good now the whole idea of going to see a movie in a theater because it’s a better viewing experience is dated. Watching sports on tv is also a better viewing experience. You don’t go to the game to see the different angle an close up shots, you go to the game for the excitement and camaraderie with fellow fans. There is no camaraderie to be had in a quiet movie theater.
When people start coming back to your theaters for the first time in 2 1/2 years you should do everything you can to not deter them. We’ll see what AMC decides to do with the pricing changes once they announce what they’ll actually cost. You could always be like high school Steve and use the automated kiosk for your tickets. Save yourself about 6 bucks by buying a pair of senior citizen tickets for you and your girlfriend!
