Mark MakelaWhen you're looking to find a new house or apartment, plenty of things factor into where you look. Home prices, school district, crime, location to job, etc. It's all about finding that sweet spot inside whatever your factors are. According to WalletHub, New Jersey is the 2nd best state to live in.
They ranked each state in five categories, affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life and safety. Points were awarded for each category, and the total points the state received gave them their location on the list.
Pennsylvania, we've got some work to do, but not as much as Delaware, slower lower must be bringing them down. PA lands at #14 on the list, which isn't terrible. What is terrible, is it's category rankings. Thank goodness our quality-of-life rank is one of the highest.
PA Rankings:
Affordability - 30
Economy - 38
Education and Health - 21
Safety - 16
Quality of Life - 3
New Jersey has plenty going for it. It has some great beaches, which we talked about here. It's super close to both center city Philadelphia and New York City. They sell their liquor and beer in the same stores, and it's now legal to buy marijuana in New Jersey. I guess they factor those last two into the quality-of-life category. Not all the rankings are great for New Jersey, affordability is almost dead last and economy is bottom 1/3. It's the other 3 that bouy New Jersey as rank as 2nd best state to live in.
NJ Rankings:
Affordability - 48 Not great
Economy - 39
Education and Health - 5
Safety - 1
Quality of Life - 7
Good for you South Jersey, definitely not you North Jersey.
