3 Easy Tequila Drink Recipes for National Tequila Day
Today (7/24) is National Tequila Day. Too bad it’s Monday, and most people who would celebrate a day like today are busy allowing their livers to recover from the weekend. So mark this up as poor judgment on the part of the National Day Calendar people. If you do plan to celebrate a little bit anyway, here are 3 easy tequila drink recipes for your consumption.
1. Spicy Margarita
A variation on the most popular tequila drink in the world. This one adds a nice kick, obviously. It’s simple to make and all ingredients are easily accessible. I tried growing jalapeños in my garden this year for the sole reason of making spicy margaritas. I, unfortunately, will have enough jalapenos for a couple of drinks! Here’s what you need for this one.
1 1/2 ounces blanco tequila
1 ounce cointreau
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 jalepeno pepper, sliced
Here is the full recipe and write-up from Food & Wine.
2. Paloma
I was introduced to these at a wedding and loved it. It’s like half margarita, half grapefruit crush drink. It’s delicious, just don’t order it in a hotel lobby unless you like paying $17 for a few ounces of a drink. A lesson I also learned the day I was introduced to the Paloma.
2 oz tequila
1/2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
2 oz fresh squeezed grapefruit juice (sub-store bought juice with some pulp)
1/2 oz simple syrup
1 oz soda water or carbonated water
Here is a good recipe to get you started making Palomas.
3. El Diablo Cocktail
When I first saw the title of this drink I thought of the scene from Talladega Nights, when Ricky and Cal mend fences. Unfortunately El Diablo does not mean fighting chicken in Spanish. I found this on a site I frequent called A Couple Cooks. It’s a great site for drink recipes, food recipes, etc.
1 ½ ounces* tequila reposado
½ ounce crème de cassis (If you’re unaware of what this is, the link below will have you well informed.
¾ ounce lime juice
3 ounces ginger beer
El Diablo Cocktail recipe and full write-up from a great site A Couple Cooks.
Enjoy your tequila drinks today, tomorrow, or whenever you find yourself in the mood for something delicious and refreshing! Reminder: Drink responsibly!
