More Americans Beginning To Have Had Enough With Candy Corn
Finally, the American Nightmare of crappy candy corn may be coming to an end. As new generations are born and they have actual working taste buds, they’re realizing that candy corn is one of the worst candies out there. Americans are beginning to have had enough with candy corn. There must be a long list of reasons, other than because candy corn is garbage. Nope, couldn’t find any more reasons. Just people finally realizing it’s garbage.
According to this article from CNN Business candy corn sales have been dropping since 2018. Chocolate remains king, with marshmallow and gummy candies having a moment over the last few years. (Sidenote: Gummy candies are great.) In the article they spoke with Beth Kimmerle, an author of a candy history book and founder of a food data company Attribute Analytics. She explains what might be the reason for the decline in sales (which I already covered in the above paragraph…garbage.) Beth used more words to describe the reason Americans aren’t buying candy corn than I needed:
“Gummies bounce around playfully in your mouth while you’re chewing and then they dissolve,” Kimmerle said. Candy corn, by contrast, feels grainy and crystallized.”
Kimmerle went on to talk about nostalgia playing a role in people still liking candy corn. I understand wanting to remember things from your childhood, but I used to love eating Encore Salisbury Steak like it was some great delicacy from the old country. I grew up. It’s time for you candy corn lovers to do the same. There is no reason to keep shoveling those chalky triangles into you mouths any more. Candy has evolved and times a ticking on your candy corn availability. As the older generations move on, and new generations continue to populate the earth candy corn’s days are numbered.
Lewis Black explains candy corn the best. The whole clip is great, but the candy corn comments start at about 45 seconds:
9 Worst Trick or Treat Handouts for Halloween
Halloween is the time of year when spookiness takes center stage, and creative costumes rule the streets. It’s also the day of the beloved tradition, trick-or-treating. Whether you’re a kid dreaming of a candy jackpot or an adult admiring the neighborhood’s costume creativity while handing out treats, it’s a highlight of the year.
However, you’ll always find that one neighbor who likes to shake things up by handing out something other than candy. It’s not always a bad thing, though. Some people do it for a good reason, like considering kids with dietary restrictions. But if you’re considering going outside the box, you should avoid certain trick-or-treat handouts.
Let’s talk about the Halloween horrors, the stuff no one wants in their trick-or-treat bag. First on the list are those infamous toothbrushes or dental floss packs. Halloween is the one night a year when kids can indulge in a sugar frenzy, and suddenly, you’re handed a dental hygiene product. It’s like being told to eat your veggies at a birthday party. Then there are the homemade treats. While some homemade goodies can be delicious, receiving unlabeled, homemade treats can make even the bravest trick-or-treater think twice; also, most parent’s won’t feel comfortable with that and may dispose of them. All of your hard work will go to waste! Safety is paramount on Halloween, and unwrapped or unlabeled edibles can raise concerns.
Another item to avoid is pennies. They’re not even worth the trip to the store, and they make you question if you’ve accidentally stumbled into a time machine back to the 1950s. If you’re going to give out money on Halloween, make it worthwhile if you can swing it. While Halloween is all about surprises, pennies are definitely not the kind of surprises anyone hopes for.
Take a look at some of the worst trick-or-treat handouts for Halloween.
