Lists stir debates and discussions and they in turn produce lists. So let me do some listing on this topic and I’m sure depending on how you were raised and the other families you’ve visited over the years another great Top 10 list is born. Here are my faves for Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
- Stuffing! (or filling or dressing depending on the family and the region. Whether traditional Pennsylvania Dutch Potato, Apple bread, Italian Sausage, curveball Rice Stuffing, or New England Oyster Stuffing, I’d have to say this is number 1.
- Candied yams
- Mashed Potatoes
- Mac & Cheese
- Broccoli Rabe(most Italian Households), sauteed in EVOO & Garlic with a touch of crushed red (My Nelly makes the best)
- American Broccoli & Cheese (most Irish Households including Maribeth’s & Paul’s)
- Green Bean Casserole
- Corn (creamed or plain. I prefer plain but when my mom-in-law makes “creamed", I’m in.
- Cole Slaw
- Scalloped Potatoes
