The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), the city's largest animal rescue partner, is hosting "Kitten Week" through Friday, April 18. This event aims to find foster homes for orphaned kittens during peak “kitten season.”
“The need for foster homes is more important than ever,” said Tammy Miller, PAWS' senior foster and adoption manager, in an interview with Metro Philadelphia. “Foster care is crucial to our mission, especially during this time of year. Kittens are among the most vulnerable animals we rescue, and they need to be placed in foster homes quickly to receive individual care.”
To raise awareness of fostering opportunities, PAWS has planned several events in the Philadelphia area during the remaining weeks of April.
On Thursday, April 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., PAWS will host a Kitten Shower Happy Hour and Cat Quizzo at Carbon Copy West, 701 50th St., at 7 p.m. Attendees can enter for a chance to win raffle prizes while learning about fostering a kitten. PAWS will also be accepting donations for its Kitten Shower Wishlist during the event.
An additional Kitten Shower Happy Hour will be held at the American Sardine Bar, 1800 Federal St., on Friday, April 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can meet foster kittens during the event and learn about the fostering process.
On Wednesday, April 30, at 6 p.m., PAWS will host a Kitten Foster Orientation at its Grays Ferry Wellness Clinic, 2900 Grays Ferry Ave., to provide potential foster parents with details about fostering a cat.
“We're calling on the community to step up and help,” Miller added. “By raising awareness of the need for fosters, we can save countless lives this kitten season.”
