For the first time in more than a decade, the Housing Authority of Chester County (HACC) will open its waitlists for Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher programs for only one day, beginning Thursday, May 15, at 9 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. The opportunity will allow eligible individuals and families in Chester County to access support for affordable housing through these two federal programs.

The Public Housing Program makes safe, affordable rental homes owned and managed by HACC available to eligible individuals. These rental properties are in communities throughout Chester County and are available to low-income families, people with disabilities, older adults, and veterans. The communities include:

  • Church Street Towers in West Chester
  • Family sites at Locust Court, Maple Court, and Spruce Court in West Chester
  • Kings Terrace in Phoenixville
  • Oxford Terrace in Oxford

The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance to eligible participants that allow them to lease housing in the private market. Vouchers assist with subsidies for rent payments, allowing individuals and families to live in a home of their choice, as long as the landlord accepts the program and the unit fulfills all program requirements.

Individuals interested in applying must apply during the nine-hour block on May 15. Applications can be completed online by accessing the form at haccnet.org or by visiting HACC in person at 30 W. Barnard St. in West Chester.

HACC notes in a news release that there is no cost to apply. Applicants are encouraged to gather key documents such as income information, IDs, and Social Security numbers for all members of a household.

While HACC will accept a limited number of applications for each program, applicants may apply for both program waiting lists. A lottery will be conducted at a future date to determine which applicants are selected. Submission of an application does not guarantee immediate housing.
