A two-time All-Star infielder who hit .281 in his 12-year MLB career playing for six teams, Jean Segura, is hanging up his bat.

Jean Segura, 35, made his retirement announcement on social media on Wednesday, May 21, by his agent, CAA Sports, and the Philadelphia Phillies, for whom he was a part of the team from 2019 to 2022.

"Congratulations, Jimmy Cigs! Enjoy it," the Phillies posted on X, in a reference to how Segura's name would appear on closed captions of Phillies games. The team also extended best wishes in a comment on an Instagram post marking the announcement.

Jean Segura achieved All-Star recognition in 2013 with the Milwaukee Brewers and in 2018 with the Seattle Mariners. He led the National League with 203 hits in 2016 while he was with the Arizona Diamondbacks and played for the Los Angeles Angels. 

Segura last played in the major leagues in 2023 with the Miami Marlins.

According to CBS News Philadelphia, Segura's sole postseason appearance was in 2022 with the Phillies.

Segura wrapped up his career with 1,545 hits, 513 RBIs, 110 home runs, and 211 stolen bases in the 1,413 games he's played across his 12-year run in the MLB.
