Philadelphia Airports Fill Key Positions in Advance of 2026 International Events

Getty Royalty FreeThe City of Philadelphia's Department of Aviation has announced it has filled key staffing positions at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE). Department officials said these position hirings will allow the airports to better respond to the influx of air travelers that will visit the Greater Philadelphia region in 2025 and 2026 to attend or participate in several international events in the area.
Over the past five months, the Department of Aviation has hired more than 100 new custodial workers.
“Hiring for the airports' team is more demanding compared to similar jobs in other City of Philadelphia departments, specifically because of the background check and badging process,” said Stacey Lennon, the airports' vice president of talent acquisition, in a media statement. “In addition to the City's standard background and medical checks, working at the airport requires a federal background check, security training, and fingerprinting in order to obtain a Security Identification Display Area [SIDA] badge to access the secure areas of the airport. This process adds to the time it takes for us to offer qualified candidates jobs and onboard them.”
Members of the airports' HR teams have been recruiting people for the positions by visiting job fairs and career events throughout Philadelphia while promoting open positions on social media. HR team members also conducted mass interviews, on-the-spot employment offers, same-day fingerprint appointments, and pre-scheduled medical appointments to substantially cut down the time required for the Department of Aviation to conduct background checks and onboard new team members.
“What could be a 60-day or more process, has been reduced by 50%,” Lennon noted.
Additionally, the airports have employed their BRIDGE program to offer current employees information, resources, and tools to help individuals grow and develop their skills in various Department of Aviation positions.
