At Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township, ten fresh acts will join the August 15-17 Philadelphia Folk Festival. These additions build upon the spring announcements made in April.
Leading the new wave of talent, banjo virtuoso Alison Brown and raw-voiced songwriter John Moreland stand out. The festival's musical mix now includes folk master John McCutcheon, while Tim O'Brien pairs with Jan Fabricius for blues sets. Singer-guitarist Reggie Harris brings his stirring songs to the stage.
Musical pairs shine in this round of additions. Robin and Linda Williams mix voices in sweet harmony. The Kennedys strum their way through folk tales, while Goldpine adds an Americana twist. From Music City, Sam Robbins and Ben de la Cour round out the new acts. About de la Cour, music legend Lucinda Williams told Facebook, "I was in the presence of greatness, a true poet."
Fresh off his new record Visitor, Moreland sparked talk with sharp words about arena star Zach Bryan. He told Rolling Stone, "$350M is a lot of money to pay for the ... off-brand version of me."
Spring's first wave brought in folk stalwart John Gorka, the bold sounds of Sonia Disappear Fear, and Irish group Solas. Writer Elijah Wald joins the mix, plus the unique blend of Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise, who merge hip-hop with harp strings.
Want a sneak peek? Catch the free show on August 1 at Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts. Larry Ahearn, Lili Añel, Cloudbelly, and Max Davey will play. Rising Sun Presents works with the Philadelphia Folksong Society on this preview night.
More acts will join the bill in June. Tickets are on sale now through the festival site.
