From June through August, young people aged 14-19 can access Planet Fitness locations at no cost. The city's new plan aims to boost youth wellness during summer break.

"The Planet Fitness High School Summer Pass program is about more than fitness. It's about creating safe spaces where our teens can stay active, reduce stress, and build lifelong healthy habits," said Mayor Cherelle Parker to PhillyVoice. "This partnership reflects our shared belief in the power of prevention, community, and investing in the future of Philadelphia's youth."

Medical experts suggest young people need an hour of daily movement. This should combine heart-pumping activities with muscle work several times weekly. The program makes meeting these goals much easier.

Working out brings big benefits to young bodies and minds. Research shows exercise strengthens bones, shapes muscles, boosts heart function, and enhances mental health.

School District Superintendent Tony B. Watlington Sr. supports what the program is trying to do. "We will continue to prioritize the mental health and well-being of our students. We encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity and engage in physical activity over the summer," said Watlington to South Philly Review.

At a kick-off event, Sixers player Jared McCain showed basic workout moves. He went through exercises like pulling weights, rope work, and upper body training.

Franz Kindler from National Fitness Partners sees wide-reaching value in the program. "We're giving young people tools for strength, self-belief, and better health — skills that last a lifetime."

This is the fifth year that Planet Fitness has offered this youth program. If you want to join, visit planetfitness.com/summerpass or walk into any location before August ends.
