Herr Foods Inc., a Nottingham-based snack food company, is getting ready to make a big splash this summer with a competition-winning potato chip flavor. The company officially launched its fourth annual Flavored by Philly competition.
This fan-favorite snack food showdown will profile three previous award winners. One will become a part of Herr's permanent chips offerings.
New for 2025, Herr Foods has launched Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off and is asking members of the public to vote on their favorite flavor from past champions. The winning potato chip will earn a permanent spot on grocery store shelves in the Herr's product family.
According to a (Delaware County) Daily Times report, in previous years, the winning chip flavors were produced and marketed only during the months of the summer competition. This time, though, customers in the tri-state area will be able to snack on the winning flavor throughout the year.
The three flavors, selected from previous years' champions, that make up this year's competition include the following:
- Long Hots & Sharp Provolone: A local Philadelphian shared the idea for this chip that delivers the heat with bold roasted pepper flavor, sharp provolone undertones, and a gradually building mild spice.
- Tomato Pie: This chip celebrates Corropolese Bakery's specialty dish enjoyed by people throughout the Philadelphia area. The chip carries the flavors of sweet tomato sauce and Romano cheese combined with Herr's signature crunch.
- Special Hot Stromboli: Themed after Romano's Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant's Special Hot Stromboli, this chip flavor blends cheese and spices with the right amount of heat. Romano's, located in Delaware County, is home to the original Stromboli.
“This competition is a celebration of Philadelphia's culinary identity that we are proud to be a part of,” said Ed Herr, chairman and CEO of Herr's, in a statement shared with the Daily Times. “We're honored to let our fans decide which of these incredible flavors will become a permanent addition to our snack family.”
