A well-liked Delaware County restaurant, which had stated it would close earlier this year, has a significant announcement to make.
In March, Pica's Pizza stated that it would close its Upper Darby location after 70 years of service. The restaurant then said it was planning to wrap up business this summer, but a new announcement has changed the establishment's plans.
"We have decided to delay our closing to the fall," a social media post from the restaurant stated.
According to the Patch of Marple Newton, the dining room and takeout service will stay open through the summer. The post further noted that variances were approved for a new location in Broomall.
"Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this transition," the post read. "We will surely update you with more information about this new location as we finalize all the details."
According to its website, Frank Pica Sr. originally opened a pizzeria at 62nd and Race Street in West Philadelphia. The establishment, which had only a few tables, an old-fashioned brick oven, and a take-out counter, quickly became a neighborhood favorite.
In 1956, Frank Sr., along with Frank Jr., moved Pica's Pizza to 7803 West Chester Pike in Upper Darby, where it became a full-service restaurant.
