For the fourth consecutive summer, Casa Soccer League has organized its "Neighborhood Cup" on the soccer fields off Bigler Street in South Philadelphia.

"Just two teams left at the end … battling it out for whoever is the best neighborhood in and around Philly," explained Kristin Lepley, a soccer player and Casa's community experience director, in a statement shared with FOX 29 News.

Next season will be a special one for the league as the matches will take place amid the FIFA World Cup games happening in the neighborhood at Lincoln Financial Field.

The support behind soccer in Philadelphia is undeniable, Lepley said. She adds that the "Neighborhood Cup" is one of several programs that Casa Soccer League provides.

According to FOX 29 News, Casa, now in its 20th year of operations, is the largest adult soccer league in the Northeast. The league currently boasts 200 teams with 20,000 active members in Philadelphia, Lancaster, and Boston. All individuals are welcome to participate regardless of their age, gender, or playing ability.

"With the World Cup coming here, you can just see the passion for soccer growing," Lepley added. She noted that interest is also building in light of major city events taking place next year: the 250th anniversary of the United States, the MLB All-Star Game, and the FIFA World Cup.

FOX 29 News spoke with Evan Duncan, a player and board member, who joined the league eight years ago. Duncan said soccer has provided an outlet to build friendships.

"For me, it was finding a sense of community when I was really longing for it," he said.
