Kennett Square to Host Mushroom Drop on New Year’s Eve

Get ready to ring in the new year in Kennett Square with the Mushroom Drop at midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

It will take place at 106 W. State St. on New Year's Eve, running from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with family-friendly activities starting around 7 p.m. 

Around 8:50 p.m. (weather permitting), an 80-foot illuminated mushroom, honoring Kennett Square's mushroom cultivation heritage, will ascend as part of an early countdown for families and early celebrants.

Guests can also participate in a Mushroom Drop Stress Ball 50/50 Raffle that occurs at 10:15 p.m. The stress balls cost $10 and can be purchased via Venmo (@kennettsquaremerchants), at The Mushroom Cap on West State Street, or at the festival before 10 p.m.

The countdown to midnight begins at 11:59 p.m., leading to the Mushroom Drop, a regional tradition. The Kennett Area Restaurant & Merchant Association (KARMA) will also hold a drawing for two gift baskets, valued at at least $2,500, featuring items from local merchants. Raffle tickets are priced at $5 each or three for $10, with proceeds supporting the event and local merchants.

According to MyChesCo, the entertainment lineup will feature the School of Rock, KMC Dancers, Veronica, Syde 2, and Fred McCarthy, complemented by a laser show and a two-hour photo booth provided by Lehigh Valley Events & Productions, LLC. 

Parking will be available at Kennett High School and the 600 S. Broad St. lot, with handicap-accessible shuttle service available from both locations.
