Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is promoting a Pick Up Pennsylvania initiative this year to honor America's 250th anniversary

From April 1 to April 30, registered participants can access free or reduced-rate trash disposal at participating landfills, with prior approval from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association.

Registration for events held between March 1 and May 31 will allow participants to receive free trash bags, gloves, and safety vests while supplies last.

Participating organizations can organize litter cleanups, illegal dump cleanups, community greening, beautification, special collections, and anti-litter education events.

Since 1990, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful has mobilized hundreds of thousands of volunteers to remove roughly 162 million pounds of trash from Pennsylvania's roads, waterways, and other spaces. In 2025, the program attracted more than 53,500 participants between March and May, collected more than 3.4 million pounds of trash and recyclables, and planted over 22,500 trees, flowers, and other greens.

To host an event, join an event near you, or inquire about free supplies and trash disposal, visit the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful website or contact Michelle Dunn, Pick Up Pennsylvania program coordinator, at 724-836-4121, ext. 113, or by email.

“We encourage residents, businesses, and community groups across the Commonwealth to join this year's Pick-Up Pennsylvania effort and help build a cleaner, greener future for all. Keeping Pennsylvania beautiful is a shared responsibility, and Pick Up Pennsylvania gives every resident the chance to make a meaningful difference in the health and vitality of our communities. It's not too early to start planning,” said Dunn in a media statement.

This year's sponsors for Pick Up Pennsylvania include the DEP, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and the Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association. If you are interested in becoming a supporter, contact Deb Woolley.
