From a free festival honoring the holiday's Philadelphia roots to live music, a Phillies home series, and a little ballroom glam, there's a wide variety of activities for every mom, family, and fan looking to make the most of the long weekend.

52 Weeks of Firsts: First Mother's Day: 1908

  • What: Firstival celebrates the nation's first Mother's Day
  • When: Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Philadelphia's Wanamaker's Department Store hosted the nation's first public Mother's Day celebration in 1908. This milestone is celebrated at Firstival, which honors the holiday's Philadelphia roots with flowers, love, and a little sentimentality. At its center is a sculpture by Montgomery County-based artist Allegra Yvonne Gia, whose background in film, architecture, and graphic design informs her work depicting a diverse group of mothers and children. It's accented with floral motifs that represent appreciation and the enduring bond between mothers and their families.

The Black Keys: Peaches 'N Kream Tour

  • What: The Black Keys bring blues, soul, and star power to Philadelphia
  • When: Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 8 p.m.

The Black Keys: Peaches 'N Kream Tour comes to Franklin Music Hall, with Miles Kane opening. This duo from Akron, Ohio, consisting of singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, is promoting their 12th studio album, "Ohio Players." This star-studded effort features Beck, Noel Gallagher, Dan the Automator, and Memphis rap legends Juicy J and Lil Noid. The album combines a vibrant mix of blues, soul, funk, and hip-hop into what the band calls their most collaborative and fun work in years.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Colorado Rockies

  • What: The Phillies host the Rockies for a Mother's Day weekend series
