Macho swagger and chest thumping live on in the eternal party boy Sammy Hagar and it’s a good thing! It’s life in the fast lane forSammy and he STILL can’t drive 55 and at 61, The Red Rocker still bleeds rock and roll through and through. This super-grouping puts Sammy back in the company of former VH bandmate Michael Anthony and ups the ante with the addition of Joe Satriani and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers). Satriani shreds, Smith beats and pounds into submission and Michael Anthony gives a middle finger to VH with his blistering bass.

Turns out there’s no expiration date on hormonal raging and tequila swilling. (well, some of us knew THAT!) I found myself smiling out loud at lines like “get your buzz on” and “lord have mercy my baby is about to get down.” Plus there are a couple of quieter (relatively speaking) moments where Sammy proves that his voice isn’t only about the shout.

Even if you weren’t a Van Hagar fan, if you’ve got even an ounce of rock still coursing through your veins, you’ve got to appreciate the straight ahead balls out thrust of Chickenfoot. No pretense here. No posturing. No agenda. Just four guys having a great time playing with each other.

And Mr. Hagar is one smart Sammy. The band made their initial foray in small venues that sold out instantly and created the other kind of buzz. That allowed them to turn right around and book a summer tour in bigger rooms.They got their album out first. (pre-VH) .They bombarded the internet via Facebook and myspace.

There’s been so much sniping in the press recently between Eddie and Michael…did he jump? was he pushed? At this point, it is what it is. Put it behind you fellas! And news flash to VH…the first gauntlet has been thrown down. Your move!
