Huffamoose Returns

 

The name is Canadian slang for…well….you can figure THAT one out. Although the band has been called “the best band you’ve never heard of,” that’s not necessarily true. It’s very likely that you heard their songs “James” and “Wait” in the late 90’s. Or perhaps it was “Buy You a Ring” in a Penneys commercial. This Philadelphia based band was poised for national recognition and then the business of the record business got in the way. Jazzy, quirky, odd in an utterly endearing way. and brimming with talent and songs, Huffamoose earned their stripes with constant and often grueling touring. The excitement of landing a record contract ended when the label dropped a number of acts, among them. The rise and fall and all in between was captured in a charming documentary called HERE COMES HUFFAMOOSE, definitely worth your time.

 

Huffamoose has reunited a handful of times since the band’s demise and three of the members continue to play together as The Fractals. The reunion that will take place this Sunday at The Ardmore Music Hall is for a special cause called “Dan’s Voice.” This charity was brought to the band’s attention by longtime friend Paul Reitano whose own battle with head and neck cancer compelled him to help raise funds for research and desperately need equipment. “Dan’s Voice” was founded in memory of Dan Rich who lost his voice and eventually life to laryngeal/esophageal cancer and it is for this organization that Huffamoose and other area musicians will join forces this weekend.

 

The delightful Jim Boggia hits the stage at 6PM and his mastery of the ukelele is a wonder to behold. Another Philly local legend, Ben Arnold, takes over at 7 with his songwriter’s sensibility. The aforementioned Fractals take their place onstage at 8 and then it’s Huffamoose at 8:30. And if you haven’t yet been to The Ardmore Music Hall (you might remember the back-in-the-day space as 23 East), it’s a fantastic venue.

Support local music! Help raise money for a worthy cause! And most of all, have a great time and witness the resurgence of Huffamoose!
