The Hollywood Walk of Fame has honored over 2,700 figures in the entertainment world with a star on its sidewalks on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. It remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Los Angeles.
Per the Walk of Fame's website, E.M. Stuart is credited with coming up with the idea of the landmark in 1953. At the time, Stuart served as the volunteer president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The first class in 1960 consisted of eight honorees, which is significantly smaller than modern-day classes. The first eight people to get a star on the Walk of Famer were Olive Borden, Ronald Colman, Louise Fazenda, Preston Foster, Burt Lancaster, Edward Sedgwick, Ernest Torrence, and Joanne Woodward.
Honorees are designated in the following categories: Motion pictures, television, music, radio and theater/live performance.
